Adexen Recruitment Agency is mandated by a large Construction Company to recruit an expatriate Site Engineer for its key projects in Nigeria.
Job description
The purpose of the Site Engineer position:
To control and manage the site engineering department
To ensure the construction project follows the required design, using the correct materials, to the required quality in a safe manner
To ensure all design and material changes are correctly incorporated into the construction project
The position is based in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Site Engineer will report to the Project Manager for day to day activities and to the Technical Director for technical direction and implementation of Company design and technical policies and procedures
Responsibilities
To fully manage the technical operations, through site engineering staff, on a day to day basis for the given project or projects, inclusive of:
Oversee the day to day running of the site engineering department.
Take ownership of the responsibility to ensure the correct design, inclusive of change is followed.
Ensuring the build ability of the proposed design.
Preparation and management of Material Submittals.
Preparation and management of Method Statements.
Control of sample taking and laboratory testing of samples.
Representing the Company towards the client and consultants on site, inclusive of attendance of site meetings, with regard to the technical operations.
Familiar with the latest British Standards required for the works.
Ensuring Company QA/QC standards are fully adhered to.
Ensuring Company HSE policy is correctly applied.
Ensuring Company procedures are followed in all matters.
Control of construction drawings and the preparation and maintenance of the drawing register.
Maintenance of the ‘As Built’ drawings.
Collation and preparation of the O & M Manuals.
Control of site technical documentation and correspondence in accordance with Company procedures, to include but not limited to RFIs, Site Instructions & weather reports
Maintenance of HSE and other records as required by Law.
To assist the Project Manager in the control of change orders
Qualifications and experience
Relevant degree in civil engineering or similar from an internationally recognised university. An advanced qualification in an associated subject would be an advantage
Proven A1 Health status. Demonstrate the energy level required of a fully committed and effective Site Engineer
Committed to a minimum of 3+years full-time living & working in Africa
Stable and progressive career – no job hoppers, but moving between individual contracts start to completion acceptable
Must possess demonstrable and measurable success in a similar role in a large or medium sized company ideally within Nigeria, or at least within a similar challenging environment. Experience in achieving completion and handover on a number of projects desirable.
Strong technical ability must be proven. Specific areas of expertise required are foundation design, falsework and access scaffold design (System scaffold), concrete mix design.
Must be familiar with and able to prepare standard site documentation such as method statements, materials submittals, RFI’s, Site Instructions, drawing schedules etc.
Must be able to manage other engineers from other disciplines
Programming experience in either Microsoft Project desirable.
Must be able to manage site QA/QC activities.
Must have HSE awareness.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the Client and Consultants.
