Overview:
As a core team member of CHAI’s Global Human Resource for Health (HRH) team, the HRH Program Officer will work to support various CHAI country teams and respective governments in their drive towards:
Increasing the number of qualified new healthcare workers;
Optimizing the distribution of healthcare workers to ensure that all patients are served (i.e., ensure workers are equitably deployed to reflect the distribution of clinical need); and

Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other illnesses. Background on Drug Access Team:
The hallmark of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) approach is simultaneous and intensive engagement on the demand and supply sides of the market. On the demand side, CHAI’s country teams help governments to overcome barriers to scale up treatment programs and, for malaria, overcome barriers to access through the private sector distribution mechanisms. Meanwhile, the Drug Access Team (DAT) works to address supply-side barriers to access and foster a healthy marketplace to ensure the sustainable supply of essential medicines. The DAT works to attract new suppliers, lower drug prices, encourage the adoption of stringent quality standards, and facilitate the uptake of important new or improved products. Though CHAI’s work on marketplace improvements is organization-wide, the DAT plays the lead role in managing relationships with suppliers and coordinating the flow of information between the demand and supply sides of the market.

Since 2002, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, CHAI (formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative), has been assisting developing countries in implementing large-scale, integrated HIV care, treatment, and prevention programs. CHAI is currently active in Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, and Eastern Europe. In support of national HIV/AIDS programs, CHAI provides technical assistance, mobilizes human and financial resources, and facilitates the sharing of best practices across projects. CHAI has also negotiated agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies that have lowered the cost of HIV/AIDS and malaria diagnostics and treatment in the developing world by 30-90%. Our ultimate objectives are to make high-quality HIV/AIDS and malaria care and treatment available to all who need it, and to partner with governments and other stakeholders to strengthen healthcare systems and develop sustainable strategies to overcome obstacles to scale-up.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) recently reached a strategic decision to apply the techniques it has used successfully to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment in developing countries to essential vaccines. CHAI is planning to support national governments of high burden countries to accelerate the introduction and uptake of life-saving pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines.
