International travel

Entry requirements

You’ll need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to be accepted.
A degree in HR Management would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Programme overview

This programme is designed to give you broad and in-depth experience of both strategic and operational HR. You'll spend a year learning how HR relationship managers add value to the organisation, through leveraging various HR products to drive strategic business outcomes. This experience will be complemented by three intensive rotations in specialist areas such as learning and talent development, performance & engagement or reward.
Your rotation experiences will be coupled with formal development, including classroom and e-learning elements, plus a secondment to our world-class Shared Service Centre in India where you'll develop a firm foundation in Human Resources service delivery and infrastructure.
The programme consists of four standard rotations of varying lengths:
Rotation 1 - (11 months)
You’ll be assigned to your rotation in Country Human Resources after your induction. This will be a general HR role supporting a senior HR Relationship Manager. As a new recruit you’ll be exposed to a number of various areas including:
  • Resourcing
  • Learning & Talent Development
  • Employee Relations
  • Engagement
  • Performance Management
  • Recognition
  • Reward
  • Risk
Rotation 2 – HR Shared Service Centre (HRSSC) in Chennai, India (2 months)
To build upon your knowledge of how HR operates in-country, you’ll spend two months in India. Our HRSSC provides extensive support to both the HR community and to our employees across the Group.

This rotation will help you gain an understanding of:
  • How we collaborate with and support the HR function across Standard Chartered
  • The purpose of the HRSSC and all the processes within it
  • Our relationship with risk
  • What and how external factors affect the HRSSC
Rotation 3 – Centre of Expertise (8 months)
During this rotation, you’ll work in one of our global product areas. These areas focus on the strategy, the policy and processes that informs our work. You’ll have an opportunity to build your knowledge around the way we integrate our philosophies in practice through resourcing, reward, learning and talent development.
Rotation 4 – Business HR within a Consumer Banking branch or Wholesale Banking team (2 months)
This will include gaining an understanding of:
  • How we drive value and deliver exceptional customer service
  • The purpose and structure of our core products in either Consumer or Wholesale Banking
  • The end-to-end process from customer interaction through to operations and accounting
  • How the work of functions impacts the front line
  • The role of Personal Financial Consultants (PFC) and Customer Relationship Managers (CRM) in-branch
  • Customer engagement skills and how to negotiate

Additional skills training

In your first year, you’ll be required to attend the HR Academic programmes. This will take place directly after the International Induction Programme and will help you focus on gaining the technical skills and knowledge you’ll need to succeed within HR.
