About the Alliance: The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was formed in 2005 after the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined forces to create a healthier generation by addressing one of the nation's leading public health threats -- childhood obesity. Along with our co-leader Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, the Alliance works to positively affect the places that can make a difference to a child's health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctor's offices and communities.
The Healthy Schools Program is an initiative of the Alliance that supports schools in the development of healthier school environments and recognizes schools that succeed. The Healthy Schools Program supports more than 8,200 schools in all 50 states with an annual budget of $8 million per year.
It is the goal of the Alliance to fill employment vacancies with the most qualified applicants, whether recruiting internally or externally. All Alliance open job positions will be posted externally on the Alliance website. Open positions will also be announced internally by the Operations Manager on a regular basis. Strong consideration will be given to qualified internal candidates. All internal candidates are required to notify their supervisor prior to applying for an internal position. Overview of the Position:
The National Physical Education and Physical Activity Manager is responsible for expanding, managing, and delivering PE and PA technical assistance services and resources for schools that participate in the Healthy Schools Program. Responsibilities include supporting schools in the development of high quality PE and PA programs via electronic (email, webinar, etc,) telephone and onsite training and technical assistance.
Responsibilities:
Construct and execute an overall strategy for supporting the development and implementation of quality physical education and physical activity programs via electronic, telephone and onsite training and technical assistance.
Develop strategies for supporting schools to implement best practices for physical education and physical activity as defined by the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Criteria.
Develop strategies to expand, manage and deliver technical assistance specific to participants in urban, suburban and rural areas.
Develop and deliver professional development for physical educators and classroom teachers based on best practices and the national standards for physical education.
Cultivate and broker national, state and local resources to assist schools in the enhancement of physical education/activity programs.
Provide consultation to the Alliance schools team and other initiatives on physical education and physical activity in schools.
Work with the communications team to identify and showcase successes of schools with exemplary physical education and physical activity programs.
Perform any other duties deemed necessary by Associate Director and National Schools Director,
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in physical education or related field.
Minimum 10 years' experience teaching K-12 physical education in a variety of settings (urban, rural, and/or suburban.)
Experience at creating and delivering hands-on standards based physical education professional development for groups of various sizes.
Experience in keeping abreast of and synthesizing relevant research and technical information, and translating into practical steps for implementation.
Wide knowledge of research based curriculums and best practices in physical education and physical activity.
Demonstrated skills in working with the education community.
Exceptional oral, written and technology skills.
Ability to write for a variety of audiences.
Outstanding interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team in a virtual environment.
Ability to proactively manage multiple work tasks in a timely manner.
Travel: at a minimum 50% across the United States
